Climate

Texas weather varies widely, from arid desert climate in the west to humid subtropical in the east. Generally speaking, the Interstate 35, passing through Texas from North to South in an almost vertical line marks the frontier between both climates.

Texas also ranks first in tornado occurrence with an average of 139 per year. Tropical cyclones can affect the state, either from the Gulf of Mexico or from an overland trajectory originating in the eastern Pacific Ocean.

What to expect in September / October?

In the eastern part (Houston, Dallas and Austin) one can expect daily temperatures well in the 30s°C with quite some humidity. During the evenings, it hardly cools down. Occasional showers and a thunderstorm are possible.

In the western area (Marfa) one immediately notices the lack of humidity. Temperatures during the day are pleasant in the late 20s°C. Once the sun sets, the desert brings in coolness and temperatures at night can easily drop by 10 to 15°C.
